Badly-named Brumbies and Tales of Outback Australia
i have almost finished reading the book "Wild Horse Diaries" by Lizzie Spender (wife of Aussie comedian Barry Humphries - aka Dame Edna Everidge). This is a true account of Lizzie's experience as she is given a wild brumby by an elderly friend with land in the Kimberlys, then sets about making her impossible-seeming dream come true to find and tame her very own wild horse. It's a great read - I loved the sense of 'dream-come-true' Lizzie relates to the reader, and I admire anyone who says "Yeah, it's impossible. But I'm gonna give it a shot anyway".
There's lots of info about training horses, and the descriptions of life in the rugged terrain of central Australia makes you want to hop on the next plane. A word of warning: Lizzie Spender has THE WORST taste in horse names. Ever. Here are a few of her cringe-worthy titles she names the horses in the book -
* Sedna
* Olympia
* Athena
* Mr Wimpy
* Tatty
* Brad
Lizzie: What were you thinking? they are the worst horse-names ever! LOL The book's worth a read, though - I've been enjoying it.
